“Frozen Music” for Lenta.ru

In the Russian North, hundreds of unique wooden architectural monuments remain, many of them over 300 years old, yet today they are rapidly deteriorating. Their preservation is carried out by small teams of carpenter-restorers and volunteers from across the country. Through the example of a church in the village of Zachachye, this story shows how fragile heritage is sustained by human effort: people raise funds, learn traditional skills, and work by hand to ensure these structures survive until full restoration becomes possible. It is a story about preserving culture through personal responsibility, knowledge, and collective action.
