Shies protest for the newspaper Novaya gazeta
The waste reformation project has started in Russia in January 2019 as a result of the ongoing crisis in this sphere. The government has decided to dump solid household waste from Moscow hinterlands instead of constructing recycling facilities.
The Shies landfill is the most well-known spot on the map in the context of the Russian waste crisis. Located in the European North part of Russia. Local inhabitants have initiated that protest because they were afraid of the environmental consequences of the dumping project. Later, in a couple of months, many people from other cities and even from abroad have joined them.
